Tampere est une ville ayant un lourd passé industriel (notamment dans le domaine du textile) ce qui lui valut le nom de "Manchester du Nord". L'usine textile Finlayson fut créée en 1820 et fabriquait des tissus en coton. Elle se développa au point de devenir une ville dans la ville.
The town's industrial nature (in particular in the field of textile) gave it the nickname "Manchester of the North". The Finlayson textile factory was created in 1820 and was manufacturing cotton fabrics. The company grew to be a city in the city.
